Array GKO Order 1281ss of 14 February 1942 signed by Josef Stalin ordered that these men be “mobilized into labor colonies for the duration of the war and transferred to the NKVD USSR for use in constructing rail roads.” This induction campaign followed the same procedures as the one conducted under GKO Order 1123ss in January 1942.This second labor draft took considerably longer than the first one. The NKVD removed 270 corpses of men to die from this cause from one train on 21 April 1942 and another 49 on 13 May 1942.The survivors initially became attached to nine separate labor army work sites.

People are really surprised, especially around lesbian battering.The notion among feminists, lesbians - among women in general - is that this is a male problem. Source: Ros Davidson, ” Gay-on-Gay Violence: The gay communitys dirty secret - domestic violence - is finally coming out of the closet, Salon Magazine, February 27, 1997.AndWhile exclusively being a lesbian has little threat of getting AIDS, lesbians have their own set of problems. Gishick, a professor of sociology and women’s studies at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, has worked for about 10 years in battered women’s organizations and has run a support group specifically for abused lesbians. Girshick says a large number of her respondents, as children and adults, had also been sexually abused , and that the memories of these previous traumas often complicated their reaction to being assaulted by women.According to Grishick, many of these women read books about woman-to-woman sexual violence; It gets better.Only 2% of heterosexual women had been in treatment for alcohol or 12-step programs, compared with 17% of lesbians - a large difference. Source: Esther Rothblum, Dyke Psyche - Do Lesbians Drink More Alcohol Than Heterosexual Women? A13.Lesbians are not only abusers of the worst kind, nothing is worse than being attacked or abused by a female even though this is poo-poohed when women sexually abuse young school kids.In one study, 15% of lesbians engaged in torture for sexual fun (sadomasochism) that included piercing, cutting or whipping to the point of bleeding with their lovers. Why stop at abuse when you can draw blood..The National Lesbian Health Care Survey revealed that lesbian women reported that over 50% of the nearly 2,000 lesbians surveyed had considered suicide and 18% had attempted it. Handsfield, HH, (1998), Genital HPV Infection in Women who have Sex with Women, Journal Of Infectious Diseases 178 (6), pp. The old blame the male game is loosing it’s wheels very quickly.Another study of lesbians reveals that: Genital HPV infection and squamous intraepithelial lesions are common among women who are sexually active with women. Marrazzo and others, Genital human papillomavirus infection in women who have sex with women, Journal of Infectious Diseases, December 1998, from the abstract, p. Sort of puts all those claims that women are the epitomy of loving, caring and the only one capable of communicating in a relationship…..There is some evidence that the prevalence of certain risk factors for breast, endometrial, or ovarian cancer might be higher among lesbians, a report released in 1999 by the national Institute of Medicine stated.

The table above (click to enlarge) is from the paper Family Income Mobility - How Much is There and Has It Changed, and shows significant income mobility over a 23-year period by tracking the exact same households from 1968 to 1991.The bottom row tracks those in the lowest-income quintile in 1968, and shows that only 41.6% of that group stayed there for two decades, and almost 60% had moved up to a higher quintile, and more than 34% had moved to one of the three highest quintiles.Among those in the next-to-lowest income quintile in 1968, almost 75% had moved up by one or more income group between 1968 and 1991.The top row tracks those in the highest-income quintile in 1968, and shows that only about 47% of those individuals were in that same top quintile 23 years later, and 53% had moved down by one or more quintiles;

Parked across from the west side of Shinjuku Station, near Yodobashi Camera, was an little old van with speakers rigged Robinson Crusoe-style to the roof with pieces of rope and newspaper padding.In the driver’s seat was a bearded guy, probably in about his late 30s or early 40s, with a white plastic mike hanging in front of his mouth from the rearview mirror, and a equally toy-looking synthesizer keyboard propped on the dashboard.He was fingering the keyboard in a desultory way, producing rudimentary drum effects that, with his occasional voice-overs, mixed in with the BGM that played constantly and quietly from the speakers.I stood there for five minutes and, as far as I could tell, no one seemed to even vaguely register his, the van’s, the music’s existence.

This is regarding the Nov. 26 letter about the Minneapolis airport incident in which six praying Muslims scared another passenger and resulted in questioning of the Muslims, having their backgrounds checked, being free to go, but not being allowed to continue on the same airline (Passenger deserves praise for response to clerics). I suspect if a Caucasian person was praying on a plane in a specifically Christian way, he or she would not be pulled off the plane for questioning and perhaps even arrest.I agree with the writer on one thing — It’s not for us to decide who looks like a terrorist and who doesn’t.SELENE EMAD-SYRINGDuluthThe writer is 12 years old.This letter is a good example of a way to let your voice be heard!

Before Mayfield signed, Baldwin stepped in as Michael Waltrip’s crew chief to finish the year. When setting goals for Mayfield and the #36 car, it’s important to remember that this is a brand new team with a brand new manufacturer. If Mayfield struggles to qualify or can’t run well enough to stay inside the top 35, things could get frustrating. BIOLLANTE, the sequel to THE RETURN OF GODZILLA and by far the most imaginative entry in the Heisei series of Godzilla films. Unlike RETURN OF GODZILLA, this film wasn’t altered for its US release, but that release, ultimately direct-to-video and cable by Miramax in 1993 (it came out in Japan in 1989), was so limited that it remains one of the harder-to-find G films in America. This is one of my favorite Godzilla movies and one of my favorite films overall, so let’s just dive into it.The film starts in the immediate aftermath of Godzilla’s 1984 rampage; The storyline, originally conceived by dentist and part-time screenwriter Shinichiro Kobayashi and chosen via a nationwide contest held in 1986, throws plenty of neat things at us, from corporate espionage, to a giant plant-monster, to psychic powers, to an elaborate military storm creation system, to a series of G alert protocols used in case of Godzilla-related activities, to the Super X-2, a cousin to RETURN OF GODZILLA’s Super X flying weapons platform, this version equipped with a synthetic diamond mirror that reflects Godzilla’s flame breath back at him. It’s one of the weirder Godzilla films, and when you’re dealing with a giant mutant dinosaur who breathes blue flame and eats nuclear energy, that’s probably the best way to go.Story by Shinichiro KobayashiWritten and Directed by Kazuki OmoriGrade: B

-ne AUTHOR: Allen MacNeillSOURCE: Original essayCOMMENTARY: That’s up to you…Given the sudden increase in readership of this list, I’m going to take the shamelessly opportunistic route and post a summary of my most recent publication: The capacity for religious experience is an evolutionary adaptation to warfare, in Fitzduff, M. (2004) The capacity for religious experience is an evolutionary adaptation to warfare Evolution & Cognition, vol. The pan-specific qualities of both religious experience and warfare indicate that they are both evolutionary adaptations. There is considerable variation between individuals with respect to their capacity for religious experience and motivation to participate in warfare. Religious experience at the individual level is characterized by depersonalization, coupled with submission to a super-individual force; The capacities for both religious experience and participation in warfare are adaptations insofar as they evolve by means of natural selection operating primarily at the level of individuals who are members of groups in which both kin selection and reciprocal altruism are also operative. If natural selection is to operate at the level of individuals, these two circumstances should ideally be obtained simultaneously, Here is where the capacity for religious experience is crucial. By making possible the belief that a supernatural entity knows the outcome of all actions and can influence such outcomes, that one’s self (i.e., soul) is not tied to one’s physical body, and that if one is killed in battle, one’s essential self (i.e., soul) will go to a better place (e.g., heaven, valhalla, etc.) the capacity for religious experience can tip the balance toward participation in warfare. They have tied such displays to religious activities, and shown the deep similarities between religious rituals and secular ones: …patriotic rituals… emphasize the sacredness of a nation, or a cause, or even a flag…turn[ing] a meaningful idea into a visceral experience. Specifically, he argues that benefits that accrue to groups as the result of individual sacrifices can result in increased group fitness, and this can explain what is otherwise difficult to explain: religiously motivated behaviors (such as celibacy and self-sacrifice) that apparently lower individual fitness as they benefit the group. Therefore, it follows that if the capacity for religious experience is an evolutionary adaptation, then there will be variation between individuals in the degree to which they express such a capacity. Given the mechanisms of kin selection, one can see how warfare and the religious beliefs that facilitate it might evolve among the closely related kin groups that constitute the raiding parties characteristic of hunting/gathering and pastoral peoples. Putting all of this together, it appears likely that the capacity for religious experience and the capacity for warfare have constituted a coevolutionary spiral that has intensified with the transitions from a hunting/gathering existence through subsistence agriculture to the evolution of the modern nation-state. However, the fact that such a correlation can even be made points to the underlying ecological dynamics driving the evolution of subsistence patterns, patterns of warfare, and types of religious experience.

I dare you to accept that from your parents, who are so near tears they can hardly speak the words as they hand you the box, and not cry!The most surprising moment of the night for me came just as we returned to Joe’s apartment after picking David up at the airport. His friends Rishi and Greg gave me hugs, and one of them said, Thank you, thank you for what you are doing for our friend. But until that moment, I hadn’t really thought about this gift from Joe’s perspective, and from the perspective of his fabulous and loving community full of people who care about him just like you all care about me. To them, I was not a hero so much for doing this, but for doing it for their friend, who they love.

We’d use a particularly powerful model - big enough to hit escape velocity of 11 kilometers per second even after atmospheric considerations - and launch it all into the Sun or randomly into space.

My grandmother is doing wonderful - so wonderful, in fact, that she’s been moved into an extended care facility quicker than expected (by about a week.) The legs are healing, the big ol’ knot on her head is finally shrinking, and they’ve moved up her ankle and heel surgery to the end of May.As of right now, G’maw is expected to make an at least 90% recovery. I choked up a bit reading them.While the ZenFo Grandma began her own healing journey, I had some unfinished healing I needed to do, some emotional TLC I needed to get out of the way. Going back o the ol’ hometown is always a bit of a traumatic experience for me - I think it tends to be that way for many folks who grew up in small, rural communities. What is your favorite TV show? From Daily RepublicBy Ian Thompson SUISUN CITY - The imposing two-story brick building with its stained-glass windows stands over Main Street as a 120-year-old curiosity, one of the few buildings in Northern California designed specifically as a Masonic hall.The Masonic lodge it shelters, the Stanley Beverly Lodge No. 108 of the Prince Hall Masons, announces itself only with a marble plaque stating when it was founded.But there is nothing secretive about the primarily African-American Masonic lodge that calls Suisun City’s Old Town home and whose roots extend all the way back to Revolutionary War Boston.There are no secrets in Masonry, but there are things that only Masons should know, said Mason Larry Hill, alluding to such things as the password required to enter a Masonic meeting.That openness ranges from the community projects the Masons undertake to a willingness to talk abut Masonry to anyone interested.It is different from when my dad was a Mason, Hill said of the time when Masons simply went around helping their community quietly. Now we are more visible and let people know we are here.We are open to any member, but we are primarily African-American, longtime member Fred Young said.Many years ago, black Masons weren’t welcome in primarily white lodges, but now members from different lodges visit more frequently, Hill and Young said.Masonry is all about fellowship and is based on the principles set down in the Bible, members said.They denied they are a religion and pointed out people of every religion belong to the lodges, with the only proviso being a belief in a supreme being.It has helped me in dealing with life, Young said. It allowed me to meet people from all over the world who share a common belief in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.It just makes people better, he added. Color doesnt have to be a factor.”Most of the members are second- or third-generation Masons such as Young, whose father was a Mason while stationed on Okinawa.”I grew up in the lodge,” he said.He joined in April 1968 while serving as an Air Force loadmaster on C-130 Hercules transports.Hill has been a Mason since 1977 and was inspired to join the fraternity because his father was also a Mason.”I just like doing this,” Hill said. “If you like helping people and your community, you will enjoy it. You can do more as a group than as an individual.”The building was erected in 1888 and its ground floor has housed everything from pool hall to an auto parts store.The two-story Gothic Revival building is considered one of the few Masonic lodges in Northern California that was built expressly for use as a Masonic lodge - it originally housed Lodge No. 55, Free and Accepted Masons before that lodge moved to new quarters in Fairfield.While stationed at Travis Air Force Base, Young went to halls in the Sacramento and the Bay Area but then noticed this area had a growing number of Masons.”We had enough people so we formed in 1973,” Young said.The Stanley Beverly Lodge held its first meetings in the veterans hall a couple of blocks up Main Street in 1973.The group was only 25 strong then and has grown to a little more than 100 now with members scattered among Suisun City, Fairfield, Travis AFB and Vacaville.Almost all of the original 25 were active-duty military members. Only 20 of the present 109 lodge members are in the military, but many others such as Hill and Young are retired military.”You find a lot of Masons in the military,” Hill said.Not long after forming, they heard the Masonic Hall was being used for storage and approached the owner of the building, who was a member of the Masonic Hall that relocated to Fairfield.”The guy said he would sell it and we bought it in 1974,” member Young said.The lodge meets twice a month, sponsors a Little League team, has a scholarship program and offers youth activities for the members families. Members also work as tutors at local schools.The first meetings of the month are business meetings while the second meetings are devoted to study and presentations on masonry.They also respond to requests from community groups, schools and young people asking for sponsorships or donations for various community causes, Hill said. The group plans to expand community involvement with more programs to help youth.Young and Hill say the Stanley Beverly Lodge is no different from the Masonic group that meets in Fairfield. Six years ago, the leaders of the two groups met and established visitation rights that allow each to attend the others meetings.Suisun City is now one of 5,000 lodges and 47 grand lodges with an estimated 300,000 Masons who can trace their lineage to the Prince Hall Grand lodge.The Stanley Beverly Masons are still working to bring the historic building “back up to what a Masonic hall should look like,” Young said.The stained-glass windows overlooking Main Street have been restored already and redoing the floor is next on the agenda.”We are trying to bring it up to date,” Hill said of the ongoing efforts.Reach Ian Thompson at 427-6976 or at ithompson@dailyrepublic.net.MASONRY AND BLACK MASONSMasonry goes back to the medieval stonemason guilds of Europe.The history of the Prince Hall Masons goes back to March 1775 when Prince Hall and 14 other African-Americans were made Masons in a Masonic Lodge attached to a British regiment stationed in Boston.When the British left, the British masons left behind a permit allowing the black Masons to continue meeting as a lodge. In July 1776, the African Lodge was formed.By the time Hall died in 1807, there were several lodges established on the East Coast and in honor of Hall, the Boston lodges name was changed the Prince Hall Grand Lodge.Hall, who was a leatherworker and later a minister, is now recognized as the father of black masonry in America.It is the only grand lodge to still have its original charter from England, said Fred Young, a Stanley Beverly Lodge No. 108 member.

I was helping to organize the line (the older kids like to push the little kids to the back so that they can go first.) and talking to Leon, when this man that was probably in his sixties (if not older) wearing an old, dusty suit jacket that was much too large for him (the arms were so long they were rolled up a few times so that only his finger tips protruded.) walked up to me and said, “Hey, darlin’… I am madly in love with you… and you are in love with me.” The shock that I felt must have showed on my face because he grabbed my arm and said, “right?!” I smiled a confused smile and said,“Well… to tell you the truth I don’t quite know what to say.” That was not the correct thing to say. Rico came up to the man in a real buddy-like way, put his arm on the old man’s shoulder and said, “hey why don’t you come over here with me and leave this lady for now?” But almost before he could finish saying that the old man, with lighting speed, punched Rico in the mouth and said,“I am talking to the girl right now, so leave me alone!!” Rico’s mouth was bleeding, the old man was still gripping my arm, and I was feeling shocked, horrified and vulnerable.

It places new restrictions on election campaigns to reduce the appearances-of or acts-of public corruption via questionable political contributions, and to restore voter confidence in citizens (who may suspect a form of institutional bribery: money in exchange for special treatment if elected). What I like about the decision is that its goal is to limit “soft money” campaign donations from individuals and corporations, while increasing disclosure of the source of campaign money. Since the court upheld the Act, I support their decision, however there are other facets of the Act which I do not support and which the Court upheld. This deadline may result in the following situation: one campaign sends out questionable campaign materials accusing the other candidate of supporting violent criminals sixty days before the election;

Let me tell you that the Union representatives met with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) lawyer to go over the Union’s notes from negotiations and answer any questions he had. As we indicated at the ratification meeting on June 5th this is a slow process that may take many weeks if not months for the NLRB to investigate.
