Have to find the treadmill, I know there is one somewhere.Getting cleaned up and then we're gonna get some grub.Today is going to be about running the excess energy out of the boys that built up over our marathon drive, and getting settled with some groceries and stuff.Discovered we’ve got no internet in the room, so any internet usage (including extended blog posts, sorry) will have to be accomplished in the lobby of the hotel or at a coffee shop or something.

-ne No pictures today. My mom had surgery today and I hung out at the hospital all day long.I should have brought my camera and taken a picture of the hospital or the boring waiting room.

Generally, most everything I ate was good for me, though I did enjoy two pieces of shrimp tempura (yummm…) and had the plum sorbet for dessert (which I don’t think was sorbet, I think it was ice cream). I might run again after I’m finished with this, again, partly to get it out of the way, and partly because I hear that running (or doing any exercise) first thing in the morning is better for you.So, just the facts:Day 82 food:BananaBreakfast barWaterPopcorn cakeGrilled chicken Caesar salad (low fat dressing!)WaterGrapes (about 20)Sushi (probably 15 pcs. of fish)Spicy tuna roll (3 pcs.)Soft shell crab roll (3 pcs.)Yellowtail miso soup (small amount)Shrimp tempura (2 pcs.)Plum sorbet (small amount)WaterDay 82 exercise: Three long walks plus 2 mile runDaily weight: 229 lbs.

I dare you to accept that from your parents, who are so near tears they can hardly speak the words as they hand you the box, and not cry!The most surprising moment of the night for me came just as we returned to Joe’s apartment after picking David up at the airport. His friends Rishi and Greg gave me hugs, and one of them said, Thank you, thank you for what you are doing for our friend. But until that moment, I hadn’t really thought about this gift from Joe’s perspective, and from the perspective of his fabulous and loving community full of people who care about him just like you all care about me. To them, I was not a hero so much for doing this, but for doing it for their friend, who they love.

A mass driver is a sort of oversized electromagnetic railgun, which was once proposed as a way of getting mined materials back from the Moon to Earth - basically, you just load it into the driver and fire it upwards in roughly the right direction. We’d use a particularly powerful model - big enough to hit escape velocity of 11 kilometers per second even after atmospheric considerations - and launch it all into the Sun or randomly into space.

Besides Dr. Strangelove, there were 40 nuclear armaggedon movies were identified and posted after I asked readers to send me the names of movies in which atomic detonations occur on screen. Atomic Cafe I put asterisks next to movies that either I’ve seen or could otherwise say with certainty that nuclear detonation does occur on screen. As far as the others, I don’t know — that’s a lot of movies to watch. If anyone can add to my store of knowledge, and tell me if they know for sure that a blast occurs screen or not, I’d appreciate it.

I was supposed to be in late tonight, but I managed to sweet-talk my way into an earlier departure.I ended up in Virginia for a little longer than I expected. My grandmother is doing wonderful - so wonderful, in fact, that she’s been moved into an extended care facility quicker than expected (by about a week.) The legs are healing, the big ol’ knot on her head is finally shrinking, and they’ve moved up her ankle and heel surgery to the end of May.As of right now, G’maw is expected to make an at least 90% recovery. I choked up a bit reading them. While the ZenFo Grandma began her own healing journey, I had some unfinished healing I needed to do, some emotional TLC I needed to get out of the way. Going back o the ol’ hometown is always a bit of a traumatic experience for me - I think it tends to be that way for many folks who grew up in small, rural communities. What is your favorite TV show? -ne
From Daily RepublicBy Ian Thompson SUISUN CITY - The imposing two-story brick building with its stained-glass windows stands over Main Street as a 120-year-old curiosity, one of the few buildings in Northern California designed specifically as a Masonic hall. The Masonic lodge it shelters, the Stanley Beverly Lodge No. 108 of the Prince Hall Masons, announces itself only with a marble plaque stating when it was founded. But there is nothing secretive about the primarily African-American Masonic lodge that calls Suisun City’s Old Town home and whose roots extend all the way back to Revolutionary War Boston. There are no secrets in Masonry, but there are things that only Masons should know, said Mason Larry Hill, alluding to such things as the password required to enter a Masonic meeting. That openness ranges from the community projects the Masons undertake to a willingness to talk abut Masonry to anyone interested. It is different from when my dad was a Mason, Hill said of the time when Masons simply went around helping their community quietly. Now we are more visible and let people know we are here.We are open to any member, but we are primarily African-American, longtime member Fred Young said. Many years ago, black Masons weren’t welcome in primarily white lodges, but now members from different lodges visit more frequently, Hill and Young said.Masonry is all about fellowship and is based on the principles set down in the Bible, members said. They denied they are a religion and pointed out people of every religion belong to the lodges, with the only proviso being a belief in a supreme being. It has helped me in dealing with life, Young said. It allowed me to meet people from all over the world who share a common belief in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.It just makes people better, he added. Color doesnt have to be a factor.”Most of the members are second- or third-generation Masons such as Young, whose father was a Mason while stationed on Okinawa.”I grew up in the lodge,” he said.He joined in April 1968 while serving as an Air Force loadmaster on C-130 Hercules transports.Hill has been a Mason since 1977 and was inspired to join the fraternity because his father was also a Mason.”I just like doing this,” Hill said. “If you like helping people and your community, you will enjoy it. You can do more as a group than as an individual.”The building was erected in 1888 and its ground floor has housed everything from pool hall to an auto parts store. The two-story Gothic Revival building is considered one of the few Masonic lodges in Northern California that was built expressly for use as a Masonic lodge - it originally housed Lodge No. 55, Free and Accepted Masons before that lodge moved to new quarters in Fairfield. While stationed at Travis Air Force Base, Young went to halls in the Sacramento and the Bay Area but then noticed this area had a growing number of Masons.”We had enough people so we formed in 1973,” Young said. The Stanley Beverly Lodge held its first meetings in the veterans hall a couple of blocks up Main Street in 1973.The group was only 25 strong then and has grown to a little more than 100 now with members scattered among Suisun City, Fairfield, Travis AFB and Vacaville.Almost all of the original 25 were active-duty military members. Only 20 of the present 109 lodge members are in the military, but many others such as Hill and Young are retired military.”You find a lot of Masons in the military,” Hill said. Not long after forming, they heard the Masonic Hall was being used for storage and approached the owner of the building, who was a member of the Masonic Hall that relocated to Fairfield.”The guy said he would sell it and we bought it in 1974,” member Young said. The lodge meets twice a month, sponsors a Little League team, has a scholarship program and offers youth activities for the members families. Members also work as tutors at local schools. The first meetings of the month are business meetings while the second meetings are devoted to study and presentations on masonry. They also respond to requests from community groups, schools and young people asking for sponsorships or donations for various community causes, Hill said. The group plans to expand community involvement with more programs to help youth.Young and Hill say the Stanley Beverly Lodge is no different from the Masonic group that meets in Fairfield. Six years ago, the leaders of the two groups met and established visitation rights that allow each to attend the others meetings.Suisun City is now one of 5,000 lodges and 47 grand lodges with an estimated 300,000 Masons who can trace their lineage to the Prince Hall Grand lodge. The Stanley Beverly Masons are still working to bring the historic building “back up to what a Masonic hall should look like,” Young said. The stained-glass windows overlooking Main Street have been restored already and redoing the floor is next on the agenda.”We are trying to bring it up to date,” Hill said of the ongoing efforts.Reach Ian Thompson at 427-6976 or at ithompson@dailyrepublic.net.MASONRY AND BLACK MASONSMasonry goes back to the medieval stonemason guilds of Europe. The history of the Prince Hall Masons goes back to March 1775 when Prince Hall and 14 other African-Americans were made Masons in a Masonic Lodge attached to a British regiment stationed in Boston. When the British left, the British masons left behind a permit allowing the black Masons to continue meeting as a lodge. In July 1776, the African Lodge was formed.By the time Hall died in 1807, there were several lodges established on the East Coast and in honor of Hall, the Boston lodges name was changed the Prince Hall Grand Lodge.Hall, who was a leatherworker and later a minister, is now recognized as the father of black masonry in America. It is the only grand lodge to still have its original charter from England, said Fred Young, a Stanley Beverly Lodge No. 108 member.

I was helping to organize the line (the older kids like to push the little kids to the back so that they can go first.) and talking to Leon, when this man that was probably in his sixties (if not older) wearing an old, dusty suit jacket that was much too large for him (the arms were so long they were rolled up a few times so that only his finger tips protruded.) walked up to me and said, “Hey, darlin’… I am madly in love with you… and you are in love with me.” The shock that I felt must have showed on my face because he grabbed my arm and said, “right?!” I smiled a confused smile and said,“Well… to tell you the truth I don’t quite know what to say.” That was not the correct thing to say. Rico came up to the man in a real buddy-like way, put his arm on the old man’s shoulder and said, “hey why don’t you come over here with me and leave this lady for now?” But almost before he could finish saying that the old man, with lighting speed, punched Rico in the mouth and said,“I am talking to the girl right now, so leave me alone!!” Rico’s mouth was bleeding, the old man was still gripping my arm, and I was feeling shocked, horrified and vulnerable.

It places new restrictions on election campaigns to reduce the appearances-of or acts-of public corruption via questionable political contributions, and to restore voter confidence in citizens (who may suspect a form of institutional bribery: money in exchange for special treatment if elected). What I like about the decision is that its goal is to limit “soft money” campaign donations from individuals and corporations, while increasing disclosure of the source of campaign money. Since the court upheld the Act, I support their decision, however there are other facets of the Act which I do not support and which the Court upheld. This deadline may result in the following situation: one campaign sends out questionable campaign materials accusing the other candidate of supporting violent criminals sixty days before the election;

As we indicated at the ratification meeting on June 5th this is a slow process that may take many weeks if not months for the NLRB to investigate.

Even if there is very little opposition to an idea in country A, if there is a strong opposition in country B, it may also prevent passing any resolutions concerning international matters in country A (if such an international democracy gets introduced). An other problem would be that democracy tends to work better on small scale, and as the scale of things increases, it tends to drift away from the original idea of the rule of the people. This is a problem of information flow in both direction: many people - myself included - do not always - or should I say most of the time - know about the grand scheme of things and how supporting one or the other candidate will influence our everyday lives.

Here’s my thoughts on Daylight Savings Time, which we entered yesterday morning at 2 a.m.How I hate it:Daylight Savings Time pushes morning daylight back 12 days (5 minute/day gain x 12 days = 60 minutes) extending the time which it’s less safe for school kids. Thank God the terrorists don’t take advantage during this time of weakness.Apparently bad for roosters. How I Love it:Sure is nice to still have sun shining on the scene outside my window at 7 p.m.Sweet to get that extra hour back six seven months from now.Oh yeah, it’ like six weeks longer this year.

It's nice after a 2 months of 50-60 degrees to be back toto sunny 70 degree days…I'm just gloating because I've gotten tomiss 2 New England winters which I hate!

This weekend George Bush visited Colombia against the background of rising cocaine production despite US aid in excess of bn given since 2000 to support the much-vaunted Plan Colombia aimed at reducing the coca crop by 50% in five years.Last week saw the publication of the Royal Society of Arts report into illegal drugs in the UK, part of which involved commissioning an online poll from YouGov to gauge current attitudes, knowledge and experience of drug use from a sample of the general public, including both users and non-users.One of the more interesting revelations from the survey which has received no publicity is that notwithstanding the constant hoo-ha about celebrity cocaine use, the drug has quietly become an unremarkable part of going out for a large number of ordinary people. and because the effects of the drug wear off quickly, a regular cocaine habit is still expensive despite the fall in price. But it may be that increasing numbers of people believe that occasional use of cocaine is not causing significant problems for themselves or their friends, and so their attitudes to the drug are changing accordingly.

Array-ne Iran’s hard-line stance on its nuclear program is producing some domestic dissent. Some people in powerful positions have begun to insist that the confrontational tactics of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have been backfiring, making it harder instead of easier for Iran to develop a nuclear program. In less than six months, Ahmadinejad did that.It remains to be seen whether the opposition has any actual teeth, especially with Iran’s top cleric, Ali Khamenei, supporting the hardline approach. In the end it may require a very delicate diplomatic approach from us: keeping the pressure ratcheted up sufficiently high that we reward neither delaying tactics nor the hard-line approach, but not so high that we push the reformers into a united front with the hardliners. With luck we can avoid the need for my earlier suggestion.diplomacy, nuclear, Iran, politics, midtopiaLabels: diplomacy, Iran, United Nations, WMD

I lived contrary to God in every which way never really questioning my salvation! (In college you get bombarded with the religion of evolution)Thanks be to God, I went through some bad times in my life which had me questioning everything. I encountered the living God. God, who dwells in unapproachable light, came in the flesh and lived on this very earth as a Human. God would have been completely right in sending me straight to hell yet He chose to give me mercy instead. This whole process happened during a period of a couple of weeks. Every day I would confess my sins one by one and utterly forsake them yet it was this particular morning when I knew that God had not only forgiven me but He did it with open arms and overwhelming love. and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.I was born again. I’ve been rejoicing in my God ever since.Immediately after the Lord so graciously saved me I began sharing my faith. How could I keep my mouth shut about my encounter with the living God of the Universe? So I went around eagerly telling all my friends about how prophecy proves the Bible, how God chose Abraham and made a nation out of him in order to prepare the way for Jesus, how the universe is so intricately complex that it screams out design etc.

Array-ne It’s a Gas, Man Visiting the old home in America this summer for the first time in many years, I was struck by the fixation of the populace on the price of gas (petrol). (No, Mabel, I’m not making this up!) He went on to explain that in the 1970’s U.S. Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, went to the Middle East and told them that oil was too cheap and they must raise their prices. He continued: in 98 the price of crude was so low that the oil companies capped proven wells and set about convincing us that we are running out of oil. Our intrepid apprentice oil mogul goes on to explain that he has a friend in Arlington, Texas who has been told by a geologist that his local creek - which has oil seeping to the top - will never run out! As much as I detest those morons who think that the whole world is a big conspiracy, I’m beginning to wonder if the truth will, or would, ever come out if Bush really started a war to get the oil.

Array-ne Helping you help your priest… 3/6/2005 10:51:54 PM PST The frist rule of thumb for non priests in a group with a priest: 1.) When a priest draws aggro from healing the group, the closest person to the priest stops whatever they are doing and gets the aggro off of the priest ASAP. This is due to the fact that if the priest has to spend his mana healing himself, and conentrate his thoughts on his own aggro, he is NOT able to heal you, or anyone else in the group. The third rule of thumb: 3.) Give any mana potions and such to the priest as you gather them while in the group. By this I mean that if there is a priest in your group, they should be the MAIN healer, and all others that can heal, should become secondary healers to the priest. More than likely the reason everyone got wiped was due to something I already mentioned in this post, and had nothing to with the priests ability to perform their duties as a priest. It is not a bad idea to let the priest know that your pet needs a heal from time to time, if you notice that he is a priest that is not watching your pet automatically. Rules for priests to be mindfull of: 1.) When you draw aggro, and the group is right there with you, DO NOT MOVE AROUND!

It seems as though you can sleep much sounder if you know you are not going up.Usually somebody can’t sleep at all, and he’ll get up and patiently dress and walk down to once more check on the alerted crews. That once again we were to bomb Germany, and that it was going to be a long mission, as foretold to us by the topped off fuel order, max capacity. We swiftly dressed, quietly we wondered aloud where we were going. By this time it was 3 o’clock and we lingered over a second cup of coffee and a cigarette.Again we walked out into the cold night and caught another truck to the gunner’s briefing room where we went inside amongst the rising tempo of excited, but never-the-less, calm voices of crew members. In the meantime, the officers of our crew had followed much the same routine and were at this time also waiting in the main briefing room. After a few minutes of waiting and smoking another cigarette, an officer walked in with a piece of celluloid with long red lines drawn on it. After the photos of the target and the surrounding territory, along with the procedure for our let down back into England, the weather officer gave us a brief account of expected weather at the target and our return home. Both Catholic and Protestant Chaplains were present now, just having returned from the main briefing, they lead us in a short prayer with a blessing. First came our electrical flying suit, an extra pair of wool socks, heated shoes, summer flying suit, leather flying shoes, a 45 Pistol slung in gangster fashion around the chest, Mae West Life Jacket, parachute harness, silk gloves, electric gloves, flying helmet, goggles and lastly an oxygen mask strapped to the side of the helmet. With this tiresome job completed, I slowly treaded out to another truck, which in turn transported us to our waiting plane “D-Dog“. I climbed up through the bomb bay opening, glancing at the bombs and patting one of them like you would a faithful dog.

-ne there’s something terribly romantic about sleeping four hours each night, reading in the early hours of late-night mornings, walking among sleeping buildings, and bathing in the peaceful emptiness of four a.m. air. i used to dream of never sleeping, of living my life in the long hours of the night, happily foregoing the white-eyed rested joy of a full eight hours, accepting instead the silent thrill of living in the night and still going about my day. sophomore year, my alarm clock fostered my addiction, bringing me to rely on the morning edge and mental clarity that coffee brings. i began to fill the coffee filter to the top each morning, piling grounds into my trusty Krups until the mound was big enough to provide the strength and integrity necessary for my coffee to resist the whitening onslaught of milk, to choose instead the wet black-brown color of topsoil in a downpour.i now cherish and welcome the mudblack color and floating grounds of my morning coffee.

Rep. Josh Penry is planning on bringing a controversial proposal to the table to alter Amendment 23.The amendment, which currently mandates that the state fund K-12 to student population plus 1% above inflation has caused part of the squeeze on the state budget, as public school funding has continued to grow even during the economic downturn that our state has experienced. This will no doubt cause an interesting conundrum to those Democrats who wish to see TABOR fixed while ignoring the problem caused by Amendment 23. Already, Dan Robinson a board member of School District 51 was quick to state, I dont know that the legislature should begin to dismantle what has been a voter -approved amendment to the state constitution.” http://www.gjsentinel.com/hp/content/news/stories/2005/03/07/3_7_Penry_amendment_23.html?urac=n&urvf=11102419656860.9831210711666756Well, it seems that Mr. Robinson has painted himself into a corner. One has to wonder if Mr. Robinson believes that TABOR should be defended as resolutely, considering that it too was a voter-approved amendment to the consitution? As a liberal Democrat and Mesa County School Board member, its highly doubtful that Mr. Robinson would defend TABOR with the same emphatic belief. It will certainly be interesting to watch Mr. Robinson in the future. One has to wonder if he is posturing for a future office in the state legislature. Kudos to Rep. Penry for bringing this Amendment to the table! Regardless of the outcome, Rep. Penry is opening dialogue that will expose those whose only aim is to get rid of TABOR.
